Pastor

Pastor Keith HaywardReverend Keith Hayward is the Pastor at the LaMott African Methodist Episcopal Church located in Elkins Park, PA. He is a native of the beautiful island of Bermuda. He is the youngest of six siblings born to the Late Rev. Samuel and Mrs. Edith B. Hayward. He is married to Dorothy; father to one son, Justin; and grandfather to Elijah. He currently resides in the city of Philadelphia, PA. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Geneva College, a Master of Education degree from Cheyney University and a Master of Divinity degree from Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg. He is a member of the executive boards of the NAACP-Cheltenham Area, and Mothers’ in Charge. He serves as a chaplain with the Cheltenham Township Police Department. He is the co-host of a weekly radio show at WURD.

Reverend Hayward has served as Pastor at LaMott for the past ten years. Prior to becoming Pastor on a full-time basis, he was a teacher in the Philadelphia School District. His passion is teaching and his desire is to lead his parishioners to the vision God has for the congregation. His passion shows in his work and his relationship with his church family. Under his guidance, the church has grown phenomenally and his church family is pleased and inspired by the marvelous things that are happening.

Since coming to LaMott, he has instituted few new ministries: Homeless Ministry; Food Pantry Ministry; and the Senior Citizen’s Program. He, through other church organizations, also supports the youth whose parents are victims of violence with gifts during the holiday season. It is his desire to make the church a church of the community. The doors are open for mid-day prayer three times a week, community meetings, and pray vigils. Creating these programs and providing resources to the community, as well as the church parishioners, is an integral step in reaching the church’s goal of “Rebuilding the People of God”.

The 2011 theme for LaMott A.M.E. Church is “Evangelize, Educate and Encourage”.
